If Dino Crisis 1 was like Friday The 13th, then the third game is Jason X, and that’s about as silly as that sounds. The spin-off, a light gun game called Dino Stalker, ended up with a Metacritic score of 50, so the less said about that, the better. Commercially, DC 2 wasn’t quite as big of a success as the first game, selling 1.19 million copies, but it was enough to warrant both a spin-off and a sequel, and that’s basically where the series takes a nosedive. Players were even rewarded for murdering dinosaurs in succession with Extinction Points, which would allow the player to purchase new, more powerful weapons.ĭespite the change in direction, critical reception for Dino Crisis 2 was just as warm as the first game, earning praise for new focus on action. Again, like the Resident Evil series, Dino Crisis 2 moved away from the horror-esque elements of the series to become more like an action-adventure game. Naturally, that level of success prompted a sequel, with Dino Crisis 2 launching on PS2 in 2000. Sales of Dino Crisis would hit 2.4 million copies, and ports of the game were released on PC and the Sega Dreamcast in 2000, but those versions weren’t as well received, with many favouring fellow Dreamcast release Resident Evil: Code Veronica. Environments were actually shown in real-time as opposed to the pre-rendered areas of the RE games, and enemies could follow you from one room to the next, adding to the level of tension in a way that wasn’t utilised in the RE games at that point.ĭino Crisis launched in July of 1999, and critics were mostly impressed with the game, noting the obvious influences from Jurassic Park and Resident Evil while also praising the improvements on the formula such as the dinosaur AI. Although Dino Crisis clearly drew from Mikami’s earlier work, it also expanded on the Resident Evil formula. While Resident Evil aimed for true survival horror, Dino Crisis moved towards the idea of “panic horror”, as the dinosaurs were stronger, smarter and faster than the zombies of the RE series. Undeterred by these constraints of time, Mikami spoke about the difficulties that came with developing the dinosaurs: “Producing the dinosaur animation was interesting because we don’t know for sure how they moved in real life, so I had to use my imagination.” He then gleefully showed Edge footage of the player character being devoured by a dinosaur, remarking on how dogs and crocodiles were used as inspiration for the dinosaurs chowing down on humans. In an interview with Edge Magazine back in 1999, he cited a desire to develop a game that was a little bit more “real”, or as real as you could possibly get for a game about creatures that haven’t existed for millions of years. Today we ask: will we ever see Dino Crisis 4, or a remake?Īs mentioned, Dino Crisis was conceived by Resident Evil visionary Shinji Mikami. The series has seemingly been extinct since then though, but fans have been clamouring for a comeback. The idea of fighting dinosaurs in this day and age is silly, sure, but tell me your pants wouldn’t turn brown if you were being hunted by a pack of raptors. From that, Dino Crisis was born.įrom 1999 to 2003, Dino Crisis carved itself a niche for action-oriented survival horror that walked the line between daft and terrifying. Longtime Capcom employee Shinji Mikami looked to Hollywood for inspiration on the next great Capcom franchise, and he found it with The Lost World: Jurassic Park and Aliens. Kirk’s secret lab in the control room.Capcom cornered the market on the survival horror genre, thanks in no small part to the Resident Evil series, but success breeds complacency. We are proud to say that a Linaro developer - Krzysztof Kozlowski - is the most active developer by changesets for 2022. In LWN’s latest development statistics, they also look at who has been most active throughout the year. In this blog we have asked Linaro developers to talk about the work they have done which is featured in this release. The experimental results for the commonly used PARSEC 3.0 benchmark suite show that the modified Linux kernel with the proposed selection policy increases performance by 10.7% compared with the unmodified Linux kernel. The 6.1 Linux Kernel was released last week and featured Linaro yet again in LWN’s lists for most active developers and most active employers. We further devise several enhancements to eliminate superfluous evaluations for multithreaded processes, so the selection procedure is more efficient. This has less influence on data mapping and thread mapping for the thread group. The thread is selected for which its thread group has the least exclusive thread distribution, and thread members are distributed more evenly on nodes. We propose a thread-aware selection policy that considers the distribution of threads on nodes for each thread group while migrating one thread for inter-node load balancing. This study focuses on improving inter-node load balancing for multithreaded applications. Threads to be migrated must be selected effectively and efficiently since the related operations run in the critical path of the kernel scheduler. Remote memory access is required for a thread to access memory on the previous node, which degrades performance. When an imbalance in the load between cores occurs, the kernel scheduler’s load balancing mechanism then migrates threads between cores or across NUMA nodes. NUMA multi-core systems divide system resources into several nodes. The VNF and NFVI architecture model with performance prediction is successfully validated against the measurement results obtained in emulated environment and used to predict optimal system configurations and maximal throughput results for different CPUs. The modeling parameters are derived from the cumulative packet processing cost obtained by measurements for collocated EAs on the CPU core hosting the bottleneck EA. Performing measurements and observing linearity of the measured results open the possibility to apply model calibration technique to achieve general VNF and NFVI architecture model with performance prediction and environment setup optimization. EAs are derived from the elements and packet processing principles in NFVIs and VNFs based on Linux kernel. EA is defined as a software execution unit that can run isolated on a compute resource (CPU core). The model arises from the methodology for performance evaluation and modeling based on execution area (EA) distribution by CPU core pinning. This study introduces empirical throughput prediction model for the virtual network function (VNF) and network function virtualization infrastructure (NFVI) architectures based on Linux kernel. Network function virtualization (NFV) is a concept aimed at achieving telecom grade cloud ecosystem for new-generation networks focusing on capital and operational expenditure (CAPEX and OPEX) savings. The frameworks chosen to be used in these experiments are Linux Text Project (LTP), KEDR, Linux Fault-Injection (LFI), and SCSI. The following paper highlights the comparison of different approaches and techniques used for such fault injection to test Linux kernel modules that include simulating low resource conditions and detecting memory leaks. Various fault injection frameworks have been analyzed over the Linux kernel to simulate such detection. A standard method for performing such experiments is to generate synthetic faults and study the effects. ‘Artificial introduction of some random faults during normal tests’ is the only known approach to such mystifying problems. Since the rarity and unpredictability of such events are pretty high, thus the localization and detection of Linux kernel, device drivers, file system modules errors become unfathomable. To test the behavior of the Linux kernel module, device drivers and file system in a faulty situation, scientists tried to inject faults in different artificial environments. One of the best things about Google Slides is the possibility to work with several other people on the same file in real time. However, there are certain peculiarities making the former better options for creating outstanding presentations. Google Slides works pretty much similar to PowerPoint. It's available in two formats - a desktop application on ChromeOS and as a mobile app. This is a free program to create presentations. What makes is a better choice than other presentations software? Let's discuss this and plenty of other things in the ultimate Google Slides guide. Delivering a handful of useful customization options and Google Slides templates, it lets you create a remarkable online presentation that doesn't require any special preparations to be made. Free online software is available to everyone who's ever registered a Gmail account. One of the newest solutions that are rapidly gaining wider demand among web users is Google Slides. The choice of the best presentation software is a big and important decision needed to make remarkable demonstrations for your projects or business ventures. "this software requires an 80x86 CPU (and OS) that supports 64-bit extensions"). Use a subset of features that is common to a range of CPUs so the same code runs on all 80x86 CPUs in that range. Only use the common subset so the same code runs on all 80x86 CPUs (e.g. There are multiple ways to deal with the differences: some Intel chips support AVX2 and some don't). However, some things are different on different CPUs from the same manufacturer too (e.g. VT-x) and some things (extensions) may or may not be supported. Intel's 80x86 CPUs and AMD's 80x86 are "mostly the same sort of", but some things are completely different (e.g. But we know which Intel/AMD processors you mean :-) (*) Actually, Intel makes or has made various kinds of processors, including ARM (Intel's ARM processors were called XScale, but I think they've sold that business). I wouldn't be surprised if various drivers and codecs are shipped in multiple versions, and the correct one selected once the CPU has been interrogated. Windows probably uses the common x86 or x86-64 instruction set for almost all code. Intel blinked first and adopted x86-64, although there are still a few differences: Differences between AMD64 and Intel 64 Intel's Itanium 64-bit architecture was completely different from AMD's x86-64 architecture, so for a while their 64-bit offerings were non-compatible (and Itanium was nothing like x86, whereas x86-64 extended the instruction set by adding 64bit instructions). Binary code expected to run on any processor either needs to avoid extensions, or to detect the CPU type before using them. Ignoring the x87 coprocessor, the first time I remember this being a marketing point was when everything suddenly went "with MMX technology". However, different processor families even from one manufacturer have their own sets of instructions, usually referred to as "extensions" or whatever. AMD and Intel processors(*) have a large set of instructions in common, so it is possible for a compiler or assembler to write binary code which runs "the same" on both. Throughout this discussion, it is important to note that our analysis is descriptive and, while suggestive, does not necessarily imply causation. To answer these questions, we utilize a unique data set that matches the New York Fed Consumer Credit Panel (CCP), based on Equifax data, to National Student Clearinghouse (NSC) education data, allowing us to track student debt and educational attainment over time for a representative sample of young adults.

Seventy-seven percent of gun violence victims are Black and Brown, he said, calling it a "major civil rights issue."Įric Adams, who is Brooklyn Borough president, said earlier this week New York City needs a "joint gang and guns" task force. "We have more people dying of gun violence than COVID," Cuomo said. The governor said New York State is going to announce 4,000 summer jobs and full-time jobs with training for youth, to provide them with alternatives to criminal activity. And that's not easy to say," he said.Īfter more women came forward, he made similar statements and insisted he was not going to resign during news conferences in March.New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and the Democratic nominee for New York City mayor, Eric Adams, discussed gun violence at a press conference on Wednesday, as police investigate three more shootings that happened in the city overnight. I feel awful about it and, frankly, I am embarrassed. "It was unintentional, and I truly and deeply apologize for it. "Once we receive all relevant documents and evidence from the Attorney General, we will move expeditiously and look to conclude our impeachment investigation as quickly as possible."Ĭuomo initially denied the allegations from the first two victims but acknowledged on March 3 that he "acted in a way that made people feel uncomfortable." "After our conference this afternoon to discuss the Attorney General's report concerning sexual harassment allegations against Governor Cuomo, it is abundantly clear to me that the Governor has lost the confidence of the Assembly Democratic majority and that he can no longer remain in office," Heastie said in a statement. Last Tuesday, in the wake of the attorney general's report, he said the Democratic majority had lost confidence in the governor. State Assembly Leader Carl Heastie announced on March 11 that he authorized the Assembly Judiciary Committee to begin an impeachment investigation. James deputized two private lawyers to conduct the investigation. 28 between the governor's office and the New York attorney general's office over who would oversee an investigation into the allegations, Cuomo gave James the approval to look at the case. "As I have said before, the governor has greeted both men and women with hugs, a kiss on the cheek, forehead or hand for the past 40 years."Īfter a back and forth on Feb. "During times of crisis, the governor has frequently sought to comfort New Yorkers with hugs and kisses," Glavin said. Vill said at the time she was not pressing charges or filing suit for this incident but was planning to meet with the state attorney general to discuss the matter. "That's what Italians do, kiss both cheeks," the governor allegedly told Vill. The governor took her by the hand, pulled her in and kissed her on both cheeks, Vill said. Cuomo met with her during a tour of flood damage near her town in Greece, New York, she said. Sherry Vill came forward with allegations that the governor inappropriately touched and kissed her in 2017. "Her version of events … they don't match up with the documentary evidence." "They didn't collect the documents that prove the allegation was false," Glavin said. Glavin faulted a "media frenzy" and asserted "the report got key facts wrong," particularly in the section involving Brittany Commisso, referred to in the report as Executive Assistant 1, who said the governor groped her twice. No excuses."Ĭuomo made the unexpected announcement in a televised address from his New York City office, following an appearance by his outside counsel, Rita Glavin, who asserted that the AG's report contained purposeful errors and omissions to help build a narrative against the governor. But I didn't realize the extent to which the line has been redrawn," he said. "In my mind, I've never crossed the line with anyone. I do hug and kiss people casually - women and men. My sense of humor can be insensitive and off-putting. "I take full responsibility for my actions.
